Mike Allen is starting his 4th year as head basketball coach at Olathe South. His overall record is 52-18 with two state appearances. He was assistant varsity coach at South from 2009-2016 where he was fortunate to be apart of the 2010 state championship team. He previously coached boys (1994-2009) and girls (2010-2015) basketball at Frontier Trail Junior High. He also coached AAU Boys from 2005-2014. Coach Allen retired from softball this past season after being the head coach at South since 2002. Once again, he was very fortunate to be the head coach on two state championship teams in 2015 and 2016. In 2018, Coach Allen won the NAIA Champions of Character Award, and this February he will be inducted into the Olathe South Hall of Fame. Coach Allen teaches Honors English I and Guided Study, and he is the assistant girls golf coach at South.
Coach Allen has been married to his wife, Stacey, for 30 years. They have three children: Amy (27, teacher at Ridgeview Elementary and married to Griff Young), Matthew (23, Cerner), and Abigail (19, sophomore at Emporia State). Coach Allen is also a new Grandpa, as Georgia Mae Young arrived in May of 2019.
Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Bell is a retired Senior Police Officer with the Olathe Police Department and retired as a School Resource Officer for Olathe South High School. He played football at Washburn University, graduating in 1990. He has coached football for the Olathe School District (11 years) at Indian Trail, Mission Trail, and Frontier Trail middle schools. Coach Bell also coached Track and Field in the district at Frontier Trail Middle School and Olathe South High School.
He has also coached AAU girls basketball with the Eclipse program for 13 years, has been a Speed, Agility and Condition trainer for 16 years, worked as a Cooper Fitness Instructor for the Olathe Police Department, and assisted with the Darren Sproles' Empowering Youth Camp for 3 years.
Coach Bell is married to Gina, has two daughters, Ebonee and Mikea, and three grandchildren, Jayda, Jordynn, and Tieon.
Junior Varsity Coach
Kelly is starting her 8th year as coach of Olathe South's Junior Varsity team, but has over 21 years of coaching experience. She was the 2011 recipient of the Walt Tylicki Memorial Award given by the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association.
Kelly played basketball and volleyball at Baker University where she received a Physical Education teaching degree. She then went on to finish a Master's in School Administration. Kelly currently teaches Physical Education at Brookwood Elementary School. Her family includes husband, Brian, and children Dillon and Reagan.
Coach Hoffman is starting her 4th year as the Olathe South Sophomore team coach. Previously she was an Assistant Varsity Coach at Shawnee Mission East and at McPherson High School. Since that time, she has worked with various youth programs in both districts as well as with her own children. Coach Hoffman served three years as the Athletic Director at Pioneer Trail Middle school during her time there as a 7th grade science teacher. Coach Hoffman currently teaches AP Biology and Biology at Olathe South.
She is married to Chad Hoffman, Freshmen counselor at OS, and together they have four children – Coby, Kylie, Jack and Hank.
Coach Harris is starting her 3rd year coaching at Olathe South. She graduated high school from Olathe East. She attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa where she played soccer and basketball all four years. Coach Harris is in her 5th year of teaching. She currently teaches kindergarten at Indian Creek Elementary in Olathe.
